Predoctoral Internship in Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH)

About HealthSource of Ohio

HealthSource of Ohio is a private, not-for-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), providing primary care since 1976. With over 300 support staff, 60 providers, and 20 locations, we serve 90,000+ patients east of Cincinnati. As Ohio’s largest FQHC, we offer comprehensive services including family medicine, pediatrics, women’s health, dental, vision, and pharmacy.

We are committed to the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model, ensuring all staff are educated and onboarded before Behavioral Health Consultants (BHCs) begin seeing patients. Our focus on sustainability, model fidelity, and preparation is supported by leadership, funding, and strong payer reimbursement. Training is a priority, and our postdoctoral fellowship reflects our dedication to excellence in integrated care.

About the Internship

Watch our video for an overview of the BHC role and internship training activities.

Our internship offers immersive training in the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model, with interns functioning as Behavioral Health Consultants (BHCs) embedded within interdisciplinary primary care teams.

As BHCs, interns address a wide range of behavioral and biopsychosocial concerns, delivering same-day, high-volume services to patients across the lifespan. They plat a critical role in improving patient care by collaborating closely with medical providers, enhancing assessment and treatment planning, coordinating care, and supporting efficient team workflows.

Interns also serve as educators and change agents, helping to normalize and sustain the integration of behavioral health into routine primary care by promoting biopsychosocial approaches within the team.

Application Process

Our Internship recruits groups from a variety of professional and personal backgrounds every year. HealthSource requires potential applicants to use the AAPI Online application service to be considered for our internship training program. Prospective psychology interns apply to individual sites within the Great Lakes Region, not to the Great Lakes Region as a whole. Please note, when searching for HSO in the APPIC Directory, please search for “National Psychology Training Consortium” and select “Cascades Region.”

We have two full-time internship positions available in the coming year. Interns will start full-time work on July 2026.

Application Deadline: November 23rd, 2025

The following information is required in all NPTC-Great Lakes Region applications:

  • Cover letter specifying interest in primary care behavioral health and relevant experiences related to integrated care
  • APPIC AAPI as designated on the online application
  • Three letters of reference
