Pharmacists in the retail setting are often considered one of the most accessible healthcare providers. When I started my career at another FQHC-affiliated pharmacy, I chose this particular setting because I wanted a practice environment with strong patient interaction opportunities. I believe FQHCs are one of the best practice settings as a pharmacist due to the pharmacy team’s integration into patients’ primary care. I also valued the fact that FQHCs are an incredibly important resource for affordable medications, which helps improve health disparities in the populations we serve. As I have transitioned to a clinical pharmacist role with HealthSource, I now have the chance to work with patients one-on-one during extended appointments that provide dedicated time to managing or preventing chronic disease. The expansion of the clinical pharmacy program at HealthSource has been incredibly exciting, as it allows me to practice at the top of my pharmacist license while improving patient health outcomes. I also assist other members of the primary health team as a medication information resource and general troubleshooter with prior authorizations and medication affordability. I am truly excited to see this program continue to grow!
